Home

Jon is home now and feels "out of himself". The fatigue and nausea are increasing, but Jon is relieved to be home. He managed to eat some delicious soup, mushrooms, and frozen keifer...Thank you dear friends...Caleb and Josiah were thrilled to have him home...The coming week will be tough as Jon's immune system hits "nadir", but he is looking into the big picture. Hair loss will likely begin at the end of next week....We keep whispering..."give us strength for this day"...Again, we are so grateful for the outpouring of love... from play dates to groceries on out steps, we are humbled...On a side note, Josiah can not walk on his leg, but the X-ray appears clear...This "fortuitous" sequence of ER/doctor visits in the last 48 hours will become either a story we laugh about or a country ballad....

  2. The Dephouses are in my prayers. What a splendid prayer, "God give us strength for this day." Yours is a great example to us of a deep and courageous faith. If only we lived closer, perhaps we could be of more help. But know that prayers are ascending to God from San Clemente for Jon's healing and for your family.

  3. thank you again for keeping this blog. I totally understand the "thank you for this day" and those amazing random moments of sheer gratitude. Thank you for reminding me. Your whole family is such a gift to us all.

  4. Hi Jon and Sarah-

  5. It was great having Caleb over today, with his tiny bandaid on his cheek. His spirits seem happy and normal and still full of desire for lego. It was sad seeing poor Josi with his bigger, little-brother band-aid. But I hope you look back on it as if the kids were somehow in karmic solidarity with dad.

  6. My thoughts and prayers are with you both. Some seasons in life are so difficult, you can barely push forward- I know how hard this can be to face each day, knowing what was, and now what is. As limiting as it is to try to provide encouragement online, I hope that you both find light in what I believe must be a dark tunnel. My brother recently shared with me a prayer to St. Rita that I have been saying to help me face my own difficult mornings, asking in the communion of saints for intercession:

Dear Rita, model wife and widow, you yourself suffered in a long illness showing patience out of love for God. Teach us to pray as you did. Many invoke you for help, full of confidence in your intercession. Deign to come now to our aid for the relief and cure of my illness. To God all things are possible; may this healing give glory to the Lord. Amen.

I will be praying this prayer for Jon and Josiah.

  7. Sarah Lynn and Jon: Troy told me just a few moments ago about the cancer and the chemo. This is a hard time, I am sure, but you are surrounded by friends here in VTS. I'll mark the blog, but please please keep me posted. Love to you both (and to the teeny tiny Dephouses). Tony Lewis
